Boże Ciało - Corpus Christi June 19, 2014

Corpus Christi is a festival that the Catholic Church has celebrated to honor the Eucharist since 1246. The name “Corpus Christi” is a Latin phrase that refers to the body of Christ. It is a moveable feast that is celebrated on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday in Poland, a country where most of the population belongs to the Catholic Church. Corpus Christi is also observed in various countries in the world. In Polish, the feast is called Boże Ciało.

Saint Adalbert's parish, along with it's two neighboring parishes of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Our Lady Help of Christians, commemorate this feast day each year with an outdoor Eucharistic procession along Allegheny Avenue, and in keeping with tradition, makes four stops at outdoor altars to say prayers and sing hymns.

The purpose of this celebration is the worship and adoration of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. It is a public declaration of the faith and identity of the believer. According to the Catholic Church, on this day faith is no private matter, and the glorification of Christ is an obligation for all believers.
